Start with the drive you want to use
The defining feature of the YSTC8722 is its M.2 NVMe SSD slot. It accepts the 2230, 2242, 2260 and 2280 formats, so the drive type and physical size are the first details to check when choosing this dock.
Its SSD interface is rated at 10Gbps. That is an interface specification, rather than a measured file-copy result. Transfer performance depends on the installed SSD and the host connection.
Assign each storage connection a purpose
For external storage, the dock provides one USB-C 3.2 data port and two USB-A 3.2 data ports, each specified at up to 10Gbps. The separate USB-A 2.0 port supports up to 480Mbps and can be used for a mouse, keyboard or wireless receiver, leaving the faster connections available for storage accessories.
SD and microSD media use the SD/TF 2.0 slots. This gives users access to card-based files as well as the installed NVMe drive. Buyers should check their required card-reading arrangement before planning a workflow that depends on both slots operating together.
Add a screen and a separate charging connection
One HDMI output supports a connected display at up to 4K at 60Hz. The dedicated USB-C PD output is rated at up to 100W for a compatible device. It has a different role from the USB-C 3.2 data port, so the connection should be selected according to whether the device needs charging or data transfer.
